Close To Nothing

Solo show 2017

For this show I created 10 portraits, starting with a completely white face and continuing by adding one colour to each consecutive work, culminating in a completely abstracted and colourful final piece. The show also featured an installation where brushstrokes were cut out and printed on suspended acrylic panels. The cut out strokes formed a face as you walked around the piece.

Derrick pushes the boundaries of deception and representation, to create works that explore the transformative possibilities of paint, abstraction, negation and the loss of the real.’
